TheuserinterfaceforcommontriggeringanddisplayofchannelsisenabledontheMasteroscilloscopewhen
theZi‐8CH‐SYNCHhardwareProBusmoduleisattachedtotheMasterAUXOUTconnector.Alltriggeringis
performedbytheZi‐8CH‐SYNCHmodule;datatransferisviaanEthernetcrossovercableconnected
tothe
MasterandSlaveEthernetports,orthroughanetworkconnection .Handshakingbetweenoscilloscopesis
automaticoncetheIPaddressoftheSlaveoscilloscopeisdefined.
Connections
Thegeneralsetupinvolvesthefollowing:
• TheZi‐8CH‐SYNCHmoduleisconnectedtotheAUXOUTProBusconnectorontheMasteroscilloscope.
• Themodulecontainsacomparatorwithaprogrammablethresholdandabuffertoacceptanexternal
customertriggersignal(inUserEdgetriggermode)witha
relativelyslowrisetimeandoutputstwo
identicaltriggersignals(TRIGOUT1andTRIGOUT2)with~100psrisetimetotheMasterandSlave
oscilloscopesAUXINProBusconnectors.Theseconnectionsserveastheircorrespondingsynchronized
triggerinputs.Ifnoexternalcustomertriggersignalisavailable,themodulecanbe
self‐triggeredina
Periodictriggermode.
• Finally,theSLAVE‐MASTERSYNCHconnectionismadefromtheSlaveAUXOUTtothemodule.
TheSLAVE‐MASTERSYNCHconnectionprovidespositivefeedbackfromtheSlavetotheZi‐8CH‐SYNCH
modulethatanacquisitionhasoccurredontheSlave(ensuringMaster
+Slaveacquisitionintegrity).This
isprovidedviaaTRIGENABLEDoutputsignalfromtheSlaveoscilloscope.The10MHzReferenceClock
OutontheMasteroscilloscopeisconnectedtothe10MHzReferenceClockInontheSlaveoscilloscope
inordertosynchronizethetwooscilloscopeacquisiti ons.Uponproper
connectionandreceiptofavalid
TRIGINsignal,theMasterandSlaveoscilloscopesimultaneouslyacquiredata.
